The University recognises the need to strengthen strategic planning, align administrative support with these plans and ensure consistency of policy and procedure. To achieve this two new Colleges have been formed and a number of research schools formed through the merger of research schools and departments.

the ANU College of Medicine, Biology and Environment comprises the John Curtin School of Medical Research, the Research School of Biology, the Fenner School of Environment and Society and the School of Health and Psychological Sciences
the ANU College of Physical Sciences comprises the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Research School of Chemistry, Research School of Earth Sciences, Research School of Physics and Engineering and the Mathematical Sciences Institute
A Joint Administration Group provides support to the Schools of the two Colleges across key administration function areas.
